• Incorporated in1986 as a non-profit, charitable and volunteer based organization with 3 full time staff members.
  • Lennox & Addington Seniors Outreach Services Inc. serves senior citizens, and adults with a disability.
  • A solid foundation laid from inception has helped L&A SOS deliver outstanding community programs and activities.
  • Initially, a group of interested citizens, with the financial support of various service clubs and organizations, established a bus service for the seniors of Napanee. The bus service is still operating on Tuesdays and has expanded to Fridays as well.
  • L&A SOS then expanded to include:

    • Social Activities such as Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Fitness, Creative Arts, Textile Arts, Cards
    • The work of L&A SOS is carried out by a large team of dedicated volunteers with the Coordination of staff members.
    • A volunteer board of directors meets once a month (September to June) and oversees the governance of L&A SOS.
    • L&A SOS is extremely grateful for the majority of the budget from the Ministry of Health, South East Local Health Integration Network (SE LHIN) to pay for the administration and delivery of programs.
    • Client’s fees, tax-deductible donations from service clubs, organizations, businesses, and many individuals along with a set number of fundraising events support the many ongoing financial challenges of L&A SOS.
    • Gratitude for the financial support from County, KFL&A United Way and the Trillium Foundation for the financial support given for the 55 Plus Activities.
    • Also gratitude and many thanks goes to the Trillium Foundation, KFL&A United Way, John M. Parrott Foundation, The County of Lennox and Addington and the Ontario Sports and Recreation Communities Fund for the financial support that has been vital to the many activities and programs of L&A SOS.
    • 2007 The Board of Directors developed its first 5 year Strategic Plan

    • 2010 the 55Plus Activity Centre was founded providing activities for the SOS membership; Fitness, Social, Educational, and Creative Programs.
    • 2013 The Board of Directors developed a new Strategic Plan.

    • 2019 the L&A SOS underwent significant changes to the organization. The VON assumed responsibility for the LHIN sponsored programs such as Meals on Wheels, Care Giver Respite, Adult Day, Transportation, Foot Care and Social Diners
    • Programs that remain with L&A SOS are the 55Plus Activity Centre, Lifeline, Free Seniors Town Bus, Financial Assistance.
    • Gratitude for the financial support from Provincial Ministry of Seniors & Accessibility; the County of L&A, Town of Greater Napanee, KFL&A United Way, the Trillium Foundation, and the Community Foundation of L&A for their financial support.
    • 2020 a new and exciting program has been implemented to help our membership deal with on going concerns with the Covid 19 virus. Senior Centres without Walls (SCWW) provides opportunities for members to participate in social, physical and learning opportunities from the safety of their home using a telephone.
