Mondays and Wednesdays

The practice fuses both martial arts and meditation, which might seem like an unlikely combination. However,
the idea is to slow down both your mind and body by repeating rhythmic choreography and breath work for

a full body workout of stretching, flexing that aids to better balance and strength.

Line Dancing- ON HOLD for Summer

Wednesdays at 1:00pm
Location: Off-Site at RC Legion
Leader: Tricia Cammaart

Come and enjoy the fun. Line dancing is a choreographed dance to music, in which a group of people dance along to a
repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more lines or rows. These lines usually face all in the same
direction, or less commonly face each other. We’ll get our steps in and “Yahoo” our way to fitness!

Meditative Movement

Tuesdays at 10:15am
Location: Gym
Leader: Jeff Cammaart

This class mimics Tai Chi and Qi Gong. The difference is a greater allowance for freedom of variance of movement (meaning
there is no memory work in remembering steps to flow from one movement to the next). The concept of moving slowly and
meditatively is to train the mind to be calm and relaxed, to increase the energy of the body and to encourage the body to move
into a restorative and healing mode. When we move our bodies slowly without raising heart rate and respiration rate we create
more energy than we use up and cause our parasympathetic system to be turned on (out of stress response) so participants are
likely to leave feeling more energized and “lighter”.
Participants are encouraged to bring a mat.

Mobility, Stability and Balance

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00am
Location: Fitness Room
Leader: Kimberley Sledz

Let’s Get Moving
Are you suffering from stiff, aching joints? Recovering from an injury or surgery? Have concerns about your balance and
stability? Join me as we gently exercise and stretch to achieve greater range of motion, muscle strength and joint health. This is
an introductory level program. Mobility is the ability to move freely and easily through the body’s full range of motion. Our
mobility naturally decreases as we age because the amount of fluid within the joints decreases which causes the joints to
stiffen. Maintaining balance is crucial to prevent falls and helps make daily activities easier to perform. Stability is your body’s
ability to return to a desired position. In other words balance is the ability to control your body when still while stability is the
ability to control your body during movement.

Strength & Core fitness course

Strength & Core

Monday and Wednesdays 8:45 – 9:45am
Location: Gym
Leader: Kimberley Sledz

Please note: This program is suspended for Jan – March 2024 and will resume again in April 2024. A dynamic full body strength training class with a focus on strengthening the core. Strength training involves the performance of exercises designed to improve strength and endurance; often associated with lifting weights which helps build muscle mass and strength.

The core is a group of muscles that stabilize and control the pelvis and spine. A strong core can improve posture, balance, coordination, and stability.

Muscle loss, a consequence of aging, has negative consequence on bone health. Strength training tones and tightens our bodies by building lean muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism works.

Health Benefits of Strength Training;

Improve muscle strength and tone which helps protect your joints from injury.
Maintain flexibility and balance which can help you remain independent as you age.
Weight management – as you gain muscle, your body burns more calories at rest.
Exercise boosts mood through endorphin release.
